Micro-Focused Ultrasound Technology also known as Ulthera has been improved with new hand pieces and a smaller spot size. The addition of these factors as well as updated protocols allow the physician to improve results on the face, neck, and now the chest. These focused beams of ultrasonic energy creates lifting at the muscular level with a 4.5mm head and tightening at the deep dermal level with the 3mm head. The De’collete’ has long been an area of the body that reveals our age. Women have a tendency to tan their upper chest. This ultraviolet light damage along with the loss of dermal collagen from aging is realized in this area (the De’collete’). Lines, wrinkles, folds, as well as sun spots in the De’collete’ tell a woman’s age. Recent studies with combination therapy (Ulthera & CO2 Fractional Laser treatments) have shown to be effective with an 84% improvement rate. These improvements were noted after a single treatment with mild aging changes in the De’collete’ and with a follow up treatment in the moderate to severe patients. MIld changes include shallow lines, superficial wrinkles and small lentigines (brown sun spots). Patients with more advanced aging in this region have deeper wrinkles, folds, and larger lentigines. The CO2 Fractional laser provides superficial blemish correction, skin tightening, and skin texture improvement.
Who is a good candidate for treatment
Women and men who suffer with laxity and sun damage in the upper chest area. In general the patients seeking treatment for this problem are between the ages of 45-65, but reults have been seen in women even in their early 70′s.
How is it Performed
The treatment session begins with topical anesthetic to the area along with oral sedatives. The procedure is done as an outpatient with the application of both energy sources the same day. The procedure takes about an hour and in 3 days time the skin has a refreshed, more youthful look. Micro-Focused Ultrasonic energy provides continual tightening up to 6 months.
Below are examples of patients that have had the above protocal followed by a repeat treatment 4 months later. Notice an improvement in the wrinkles and skin tone in the photos taken at 3months and at 6 months (the 2nd and 3rd photos in the column). Patients are encouraged to use low dose Retin-A as well as Obagi Nu Derm after the treatment to enhance and maintain their results.
