Stem Cell Therapy Mobile

-Stem Cell Brochure

When standard medical and surgical treatments for Arthritis & Joint pain have failed, a new minimally invasive procedure may be helpful. Dr. Lyons participates in an IRB study with the Ageless Regen Institute performing Stem Cell Injections, using the patient’s own fat derived cells to help treat injured and degenerative joint pain. These Adipose (fat) derived mesenchymal stem cells (ASC) have been used to treat many orthopedic conditions, including: osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, cartilage and tendon injuries, and degenerative disc disease of the spine. Post traumatic (and after surgery) conditions respond with treatments utilizing these ASC cells along with platelet rich plasma (PRP), acoustic wave treatments, and supplements. When the the ASC and PRP treatments are performed there is release of bioactive tissue growth factors leading to tissue repair. Intra-articular injection with ASCs reduces the progression of cell death, stimulates secretion of growth factors, and cytokines (these are messages to the body for it to induce healing). The Cytokines help to restore function and further increase healing.

This is an outpatient procedure performed in the office operating suite with no downtime. The patient undergoes light sedation with local anesthesia, and fat is usually harvested from the lower abdomen. The 2 ounces of fat is treated with sterile washings, enzyme digestion, and centrifugation to isolate the stem cells. After isolation one is able to obtain on average 25 million ASC cells. The blood drawn from the patient is centrifuged to concentrate the platelet rich plasma, also for injection. The stem cells are found at the bottom of the syringe after 3 washings and spins. Along with these ASCs, there are also growth factors, endothelial cells, and cytokines. This mixture is called the Stromal Vascular Fraction (SVF). The process takes 2.5 hours with the patient able ambulate that day.  The patient is also asked to take a supplement to increase stem cell growth (Naturacell). With all of this work, one is only able to obtain just under a teaspoon of stem cells and growth factors that are injected into the diseased joint with a 22ga needle. Follow up visits are scheduled a week later to perform acoustic wave therapy to the joint to help further stimulate healing. The PRP treatments may be repeated every 4-6 weeks for 2 treatments in order to further stimulate the cartilage or tendon to heal.

Over the years performing the procedure, it is not uncommon to have a patient report that they had significant reduction in pain, increase range of motion, less stiffnes, and gradual improved stability. Dr. Lyons has been performing Stem Cell Fat transfers to the body for over 19 years, and have witnessed marked improvement in my cosmetic patients. The advancement in the field of Regenerative Medicine is not only Rapidly advancing, but also is becoming a very safe treatment for degenerative conditions. Dr. Lyons will work alongside  your Orthopedic surgeon/ Pain specialist to ensure placement of these Isolated Stem Cells.

Stem Cell Therapy has evolved into a branch of medicine known as Regenerative Medicine. This branch of medicine uses supplements, hormones, vitamins, and your own cells to repair and renew a variety of traumatic and developmental diseases. The new IRB’s thru Ageless Regen allow us to treat patients with Diabetes, COPD, ischemic limb disease, and erectile dysfunction.

Bartolo Colon a Major League Baseball Pitcher who was demoted to AA ball recently underwent an autologous adipose derived stem cell treatment {fat cells from his body treated to become a concentration of their precursor cells} to his upper extremity. He again is pitching at 93 plus mph. This treatment was in addition to orthopedic surgery. Click here to read more.

The treatment he underwent was called Ageless Regen Technique. The technique is a treatment that includes ultrasound treatment to a person’s own fat to select out what is known as the “SOUP”, also known as the stromal vascular fraction. This “soup” is a diverse cell population that communicates with other cells in their local environment…encouraging them to rejuvenate, repair, and regenerate adjacent tissues. This technology has been used in aesthetic medicine for decades using fat transfers to the face to improve volume loss due to atrophy and improve wrinkles. Orthopedic surgeons have been using this treatment to help heal fractures, traumatic ligamentous and tendon injuries, as well as degenerative joint diseases. Having used bone marrow aspirate in the past they are very excited over the prospect of having more accesible volume of cells along with a higher concentration of cells per teaspoon of fluid {50 thousand cells per 5 ml vs 150 million cells per 5 ml}.

The FDA 361 ruliing allows for the treatment of one’s own cells that have been minimally manipulated, as long as they are reinjected within 24 hours of the harvesting. This is off label use of your own tissue for the purpose of improving both traumatic and developmental diseases. So many of today’s treatments are off label, such as BOTOX® Cosmetic to lift the eyebrows, which is an indirect effect on the brow due to weakening of the perioccular muscles while retaining movement in the lower forehead muscles.

“I recently underwent a fat derived stem cell treatment for my shoulder and neck problems [dejenerative joint disease} using the Ageless Regen Technique processing technology. The treatment was performed under local in an outpatient office facility. Within 48 hours I felt an increase of energy and reduction in pain. I usually take 4 aleve daily, just to manage the discomfort, and now I am taking one in the morning. It has only been 2 weeks from the date of my surgery, but I am already feeling an increase in my range of motion, a reduction in swelling, and less need for pain medication. I have tried prolo therapy, platelet rich plasma, and cortisone injections, none of which worked to this extent and this quickly.”
